That's exactly how the mind works. Man, I really wish more people looked at language learning from this same angle… only AFTER you have a pattern drilled into your brain from all the times you have seen and used it, makes sense to learn about it (i.e. grammar).

Hey, just found your site via Tae Kim, and think it’s awesome. My friends and I run a Japanese learning supplement site, adding 四字熟語 and other Japanese expressions as kind of an interesting way to learn kanji and add some flavor to everyday Japanese conversations.
